Personalised Facebook Videos

Recently we built a Facebook app for the Lynx Dreaming Angel campaign which showed a video of Kelly Brook clutching a picture frame. As she turns you see the picture frame which is dynamically updated with your profile picture. It can be a very engaging or creepy experience depending on the footage shot.

There was a lot of interest in the campaign and it, in combination with other Facebook campaigns for Lynx, resulted in Lynx having around over 3/4 million fans. Here’s how we built it:

First of all, workflow. It’s important that the right decisions are made all through the workflow.

Shoot:
A green piece of card (for the green-screening) is used on which to project the final picture.
Warp: make sure there’s no warp (especially if it’s card)
Light: avoid any glare (e.g. if there’s glass around)
Complexity: keep it simple. E.g. fingers and hair over the green card will make the job a lot more difficult

Parse:
There are various ways of doing this such as After Effects or using Shake.
