RIBA Journal
Abraxor and RIBA use the latest web technologies to manage digital content online engaging architects across the world.
In 2008 Abraxor teamed up with Atom Publishing, who had won the contract to take on the publishing and website management of the RIBA Journal, the magazine of the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects.
Abraxor was called on to facilitate the transition from an out-dated, online magazine managed by CMPi and using an Abacus e-Media Content Management System into an attractive and online publication. Stuck for many years with a static design format RIBA wanted to have an online magazine that was up-to-date but could also incorporate new web technologies such as blogs and videos.
In order to achieve these objectives Abraxor implemented an attractive and flexible templating system and integrated them with a powerful content management system (CMS). This allowed content updates and multimedia files to be seamlessly uploaded and displayed on the site whilst allowing for a very visual design that would engage its target audience. We created the back end infrastructure for blogs and specific interest sections to enhance the user experience.
Abraxor created a publishing system that worked with the CMS to automatically optimise files and content for display on the site, dramatically cutting publishing times.
The RIBA Journal site needed to process and store a large amount of content effectively as there were articles and images going back many years. In addition, the flexible multimedia system that Abraxor designed meant uploading large volumes of image and video content was extremely easy to do so the database was built with the scope and capacity to store these effectively whilst ensuring they would always be easily accessible via a navigation structure or search mechanism.
